'Cannot afford to put politics over the rights of people': New Orleans mayor fights abortion attack

Because New Orleans officials have refused to criminalize lifesaving reproductive health care, the Louisiana attorney general has taken to punishing the residents of one of the state's most populous parishes by withholding funds for a $39 million sewage and power plant infrastructure project. On Thursday, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry got the support of the State Bond Commission, which voted 7-6 to “defer the motion for funding” until September, CNN reported.

The project, dubbed the New Sewerage and Water Board Power Plant, Planning and Construction, is aimed at addressing infrastructural issues to prevent flooding in New Orleans, and it was set to be finished in 2024. Landry, however, is actively working against the residents of New Orleans, all because of a resolution banning the use of city funds to "solicit, catalog, report, or investigate reports of abortion." What’s worse is that the State Bond Commission is actually allowing him to hold hostage what could be lifesaving infrastructural improvements in the name of hunting down people seeking abortions.
