Days after a Kentucky lawmaker proposed legislation that would allow the state to prosecute a person for criminal homicide if they obtained an illegal abortion, the state’s Supreme Court ruled in favor of conservatives who pushed a near-total abortion ban.
Kentucky’s Supreme Court sided with conservative lawmakers Thursday and refused to allow abortions to continue in the state, upholding a near-total abortion ban that passed in 2019. The decision upholds an appeals court decision to block the Jefferson Circuit Court injunction on the abortion trigger ban. As a result, abortions will be banned until the case goes back to the circuit court.
