I have been a labor activist in Missouri for years. Here’s what other labor activists like me have done in the past year. The general media hasn’t picked up on this yet. I expect it to tomorrow. Anyway, Missouri just made history today. I helped gather signatures on the petition we had going around to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr and peg it to inflation and guarantee 1 hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked with a maximum of 8 days for workers. My personal motivation to do this was to get my fellow brothers and sisters at IAM District 837 an extra 2 sick days when we go to contract negotiations with Boeing next year. I was the number 1 volunteer for signature gathers in the St. Louis area with 688 signatures! We gathered signatures for a year and today grassroots organizations turned in over 210,000 signatures to Jay Ashcroft! I believe this is the third highest in the state's history. Also, our Attorney Andrew Bailey did what he could to delay the petition to bring back reproductive rights in Missouri. His delay tactics only gave us 6 weeks to get signatures. We got over 300,000! The initiative to defeat right to work back in 2018 got 315,000 signatures and that took a year to get there. I'm so proud of all the activists in Missouri. We did it! But the easy part is over. Now we need to drag this across the finish line in August or November. More to come on both!
