IA-Gov: Andy McGuire (D) Slams Terry Brandstad's (R) Latest Assault On Women's Health

Last Friday was a dark day for women in Iowa – and all who care about a woman’s right to choose.

Governor Branstad signed the harshest anti-choice bill we’ve ever seen come out of our state legislature. As he smiled for the cameras, Iowa took a step back into the dark ages of women’s health.

The new law prohibits women from having an abortion in most cases after 20 weeks of pregnancy. And women are now required to wait for 72 hours before deciding to have the procedure.

As a doctor and a mother, I’m disgusted by this attack on women’s health care. Click here to add your name if you’re disgusted as well.

One media outlet reported Republican lawmakers hugged each other, celebrating as the governor’s signature put the law into immediate effect.

I’m running for governor to restore and protect the right to choose for every woman in Iowa. Add your name immediately if you believe every Iowan has a fundamental right to accessible, affordable healthcare – and the right to make their own medical choices.

The actions of the state legislature and the governor make it clear that the fight for women’s reproductive rights is far from over.
