Always read the fine print.
From section 2(i) of Alabama’s new “It’s Uter-us not Uter-you” law:
(i) It is estimated that 6,000,000 Jewish people were murdered in German concentration camps during World War II; 3,000,000 people were executed by Joseph Stalin's regime in Soviet gulags; 2,500,000 people were murdered during the Chinese "Great Leap Forward" in 1958; 1,500,000 to 3,000,000 people were murdered by the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia during the 1970s; and approximately 1,000,000 people were murdered during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. All of these are widely acknowledged to have been crimes against humanity. By comparison, more than 50 million babies have been aborted in the United States since the Roe decision in 1973, more than three times the number who were killed in German death camps, Chinese purges, Stalin's gulags, Cambodian killing fields, and the Rwandan genocide combined.
Yeah, I don’t think those are really comparable. Embryos are not people because … they’re just not. How do I know? They don’t consistently annoy the fuck out of me every time I stop at Whole Foods. That’s how I know.
Also, they have no sentience, likely can’t feel pain, and almost certainly don’t have “souls.”
And if abortion is such an affront to God, why does He allow millions of fertilized eggs (i.e., “people”) to die before they even implant in the uterus? In fact, one study found that more pregnancies are naturally miscarried than brought to term. So a family like the Duggars is likely responsible for a lot more fetal deaths than a woman who chooses to have a legal abortion.
So, yeah, again — you can’t really compare a murder in a concentration camp to a blastocyst being removed from a woman’s uterus.
But, well, that’s just obvious, isn’t it?
Unless you’re an Alabama congressperson, apparently.
