Here’s a nightmare scenario: Someone with a load of influence, money, and connections wants to drop a big chunk of change to re-elect Donald Trump in 2020. Here’s the real-life nightmare that gets worse in the details: Marjorie Dannenfelser, who is the president of the biggest anti-abortion advocacy group in the country, the Susan B. Anthony List, vowed to spend $41 million to re-elect Trump.
Yikes!
To make matters worse, she doesn’t want to start and end with Trump. In fact, she wants to put some of that funding into electing other “pro-life” members of Congress. You know, the sort of people who want to continue putting extreme abortion restrictions and bans at the state level.
“We’ll work closely with our local allies on the most ambitious pro-life legislative agenda in history to aggressively challenge, erode and finally overturn Roe v. Wade,” Dannenfelser said at the organization’s fundraising dinner on Monday night, as reported by The Hill.
“On top of this, we’ll be protecting our pro-life Senate majority,” Dannenfelser continued, “increasing our ranks in the House, and reelecting Donald Trump.”
“Increasing our ranks” sounds like a line borrowed from The Handmaid’s Tale, but it really is what she said.
