This week The Brief hosts Markos and Kerry were joined live by Elie Mystal, justice correspondent at The Nation, and Carolyn Fiddler, Daily Kos’ own Communications Director, to discuss packing and expanding the courts, why the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett is an unprecedented act, and the potential for GOP-controlled legislatures in swing states to upend the outcome of the presidential election.
Mystal joined Markos and Kerry to talk about what’s at stake with the Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination and why Democrats need to actually expand the courts. Judges like Barrett, Mystal explained, are hand-selected and groomed for their roles by groups like the notorious Federalist Society. Calling Barrett “the most anti-choice judge to have been nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court since Roe v. Wade was decided,” Mystal expounded on why she is the most extreme right-wing nominee to the Court we have ever encountered.
