Short of expanding the Supreme Court, when he takes the oath and becomes president in January, Joe Biden won’t be able to do much about any decisions the ever-more conservative court majority may make to weaken reproductive freedom. But he can and is expected to quickly make rule changes with executive orders that roll back restrictions imposed as part of the relentless Republican assault on women’s access to abortion and birth control.
Jacqueline Ayers, vice president of government relations and public policy for Planned Parenthood Action Fund, told Jessie Hellmann at The Hill, “We think many of these issues actually could be addressed day one, in an executive order that explicitly talks about the new administration's commitment to sexual reproductive health care. [...] I think that this is a great victory but we know that we are going to have a lot of work to do because it's not just about undoing the harm of the last four years, but really making sure that we’re moving the ball forward and advancing health care through really bold changes.”
