Almost five decades after the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade legalized abortion nationwide, abortion rights are at great risk. Across the country, Republican-majority states are introducing bills to ban abortion at a rapid rate. At least 15 GOP-controlled states have introduced bills that ban abortion despite circumstances of incest or rape, with some proposed bans beginning as early as 30 days after conception.
These bills even target doctors and others who help individuals get abortions. But that's not all: Aside from restricting health care providers from performing abortions, some states are now coming after the pill. Since more than half of abortions are taking place with the help of oral birth control pills, Republican states are looking to ban the Food and Drug Administration-regulated non-surgical procedure, NPR reported.
