Rep. Adam Schiff recently said the Supreme Court is the most unrepresentative body in the U.S. He’s right, of course, but the Senate isn’t much better. That garbage scow lists so far rightward it will need to either correct itself or drag the whole country down to the inky black abyss with it. In the current deadlocked Senate, the 50 Democratic and Democratic-caucusing senators represent a whopping 41 million more Americans than do the 50 Republican senators. Which means the majority’s wishes are regularly ignored, if not outright stifled.
It gets worse, though. Five of the six conservatives on the Supreme Court were appointed by Republican presidents who entered office after losing the popular vote. Add a brazenly stolen Supreme Court seat to this toxically undemocratic mix and you get a country where nearly twice as many people think Roe v. Wade should be upheld as think it should be struck down. And a nationwide abortion ban? That sounds about as popular as a key party at Mitch McConnell’s house.
