What is Abortion?
Republicans define it as needless killing – or murder – of a human being. Murder is a bad thing, and we can be sure God would not approve.
But IF instead, Abortion is the surgical removal of a non-viable human embryo or fetus - not a living human being – then as most doctors would agree, it is NOT murder. Rather, abortion becomes now a medical procedure taken either to protect the woman or to control unwanted birth for any reason - whether selfish or benevolent - and to be judged only by God as a legitimate, albeit difficult and painful human choice.
This viewpoint may be especially relevant considering the lack of effective sex education by US schools and families in general which adds significantly to unwanted pregnancies.
WHY is abortion such a strong talking point of the GOP? IF abortion is “needless killing”, can we also assume that GOP is against the needless destruction of life in GENERAL? Arguably not. Otherwise, GOP would not only be concerned with abortion, but also with healthcare for the sick, prevention of starvation, human and animal suffering, and respect for the planet itself – none of these being traditional considerations by GOP.
If GOP were really religious, would they not champion preschool lunches and green energy over obscene oil or tech profit for a few? But if religion and God isn’t really the true force behind this GOP rallying call against abortion, what is?
This question requires us to look deeper: What is the actual energy behind the GOP itself? Actually the GOP (Grand Old Party) will be proud to tell you it serves to protect and perpetuate the GRAND OLD ESTABLISHED AMERICAN INSTITUTION, including its wealth and power. That is why we see GOP working diligently to protect and keep big business and industry as unregulated as possible – gladly allowing most other interests, human or otherwise, to take a back seat to profit.
OK, no problem, this is the CREED of the American GOP – a belief system we have grown used to coping with for so long, we may even have started to believe it ourselves.
But how can GOP actually ever stop the natural evolution toward progressive change?
One of the best ways is to SLOW down social change. And one of the best ways to slow it down is to “go backward” in time. Of course that’s impossible though GOP keeps trying. This is why we frequently see GOP fantasies to “take us back” (MAGA style!) — to make America great “again”.
And certainly, abortion bans keep women in their “rightful 1950’s place”!
To take us backward, we see various GOP initiatives like banning an already nonexistent CRT (Critical Race Theory, which acknowledges our good and bad past), burning books about sex education and any remotely LBGQ subject, privatizing Social Security, weakening Medicare, and of course, “de-regulating” all things “big-wealth and big-business”– even while producing a byproduct of pollution and human suffering for the rest.
The GOP Creed has recently even brought the GOP war to American DEMOCRACY itself by tampering with ways to limit free voting in America - all obligingly to “protect and perpetuate” the old GOP Institution.
Meanwhile, ABORTION is a perfect GOP battle cry. Don’t you hate the sound? The sound itself serves to MOTIVATE and activate basic human responses of fear, anger, and violent opposition. So we see doctors being shot to death by GOP believers in this concocted human drama. But, "the just the cost of business" says GOP.
Because, in behooving the GOP CREED, it is the solemn Republican HOPE that each vigilant nibble at anything socially aware will hold back that ultimate, inevitable tide of natural evolution and progressive social change to benefit all the American People.
