The results are in and we’re now set for the general election in November.
One of the big winners was Pete Ricketts. The billionaire governor and his family beat the living hell out of Chuck Herbster and Brett Lindstrom with deceptive ads, and paved the way for Jim Pillen’s win. Once again, big money and negative advertising worked.
Donald Trump and Chuck Herbster were big losers. Herbster blew $12 million and finished with only 30% of the vote. Fortunately, Herbster conceded the election to Pillen. Herbster won’t be filing frivolous lawsuits and attacking the State Capitol to seize power.
Jim Pillen will be facing Carol Blood in the general election. Will Pillen debate Blood? He has a lot to answer for. As UNL regent, did Pillen approve the undeserved raises and extensions for Scott Frost and Fred Hoiberg?
From the NDP: In legislative races, three incumbent senators advanced in their re-election bids: Machaela Cavanaugh in District 6, Megan Hunt in District 8 and Wendy DeBoer in District 10.
Advancing in other legislative races:
— Sarah Jane Slattery, District 2
— Robin Richards, District 12
— Cori Villegas, District 14
— Michael Young, District 18
— John Fredrickson, District 20
— George Dungan, District 26
— Jane Raybould, District 28
— Angie Lauritsen, District 36
— James Michael Bowers, District 46
— Danielle Conrad, District 46
Cindy Maxwell-Ostdiek, a progressive leaning independent, advanced in District 4.
The November elections will be consequential. The GOP is aiming to win the governor’s mansion and a filibuster proof majority in the unicameral. They are lusting for unchecked power.
If the GOP gets up to 33 seats, they will pass a reactionary abortion ban, and repeal state income and corporate taxes. The lost revenue would be made up by a regressive sales tax. The GOP platform is extreme and dangerous.
Whatever you do, vote Blue in 2022!
